Implementing Self-organizing Information Dissemination into Network-centric Machine-to-machine Systems

This paper explores the convergence of Machine-to-Machine (M2M) systems with Network-Centric Operations (NCO), and analyzes the perspective of integrating selforganizing gossip protocols as an information dissemination solution. An overview of the M2M communication paradigm and current standardization efforts regarding architecture are given. The paper includes an overview of the network-centric networking and analyses the idea of implementing NCO approach to achieve situational awareness and self-synchronization of autonomous and intelligent M2M devices in networked M2M environments. Two case studies involving M2M systems are given and discussed as a proof of concept for the implementation of a network-centric approach. Properties of self-organizing systems are briefly analyzed, and gossip protocols are identified as a viable support solution for the proposed convergence.
